Project Overview

An image of a card with the title "Verify Your Account". Showcases similar information as in the banner image - an input for the customer to input the amount for the account they're verifying as well as a "Verify" button. At the bottom there is a text specifying that the page their on is secure and no information will be shared or saved.

What Did I Do?

As a Product UI / UX Designer at VoPay, my core responsibilities are creating new visual experiences for VoPay's end-customers across VoPay's entire product library. Bank Verify is one of these projects: to validate customers bank accounts in real-time for better payment security and fraud reduction. This adds to VoPay's experience of Intelligent EFT Payment Processing and embedded bank connections, for which I also developed the redesign and enhancements.

To start the process of developing Bank Verify, I researched publicly available competitor products to understand their process and how they wanted their customers to navigate through the verification process. I then prototyped and developed a visual consistency between the ideal Bank Verify design and Intelligent EFT Payment Processing layouts, since both products are closely connected. This process took multiple iterations and feedback sessions across departments as I wanted to ensure that the product, end-user, and internal stakeholder goals were meeting the product's needs. The final high-fidelity screens were then developed in Figma and connected together to show the full product experience from start to finish.

There are two screens overlapping. The back screen has code strings on it. The front screen has a card titled "setup my account" and a timeline with steps on what to do to verify. Step 1 specifies an amount between $0.01 - $0.15. Step 2 specifies to check the bank account for the transaction and enter the amount on Bank Verify. Step 3 specifies once verified, the incoming payment will be deposited or withdrawn from their account. There is a button below that says "Verify My Account".

Challenges Faced

The main challenge for this project was developing a more focused end-user B2C experience that would be responsive across multiple devices. The majority of VoPay's products I design for are B2B enterprise dashboard experiences. It was important to not only properly understand the consumer experience VoPay wanted to implement as a brand, but also ensure that proper UX guidelines and best practices were followed.

To tackle this, I conducted extensive user research and competitive analysis of current market apps, what their strengths and pain points were, and how VoPay's Bank Verify solution would address both. I wireframed low-fidelity prototypes, and once approved, I created high-fidelity screens and prototypes in Figma using the Intelligent EFT Payment Processing experience as a reference.

Another challenge faced during this project was balancing other crucial high priority project items that I was developing at VoPay at the same time. As the solo Product UX expert and UI designer, I had to ensure my time spent on this project and other projects was being spent wisely. Changes across Intelligent EFT Payment Processing also necessitated changes across Bank Verify to ensure both products kept the same styling consistency.

To tackle these challenges, I diligently keep track of all products currently upcoming, both in design and in development. In a fast-paced start-up environment, it is important to not fall behind and to be quick and clear with any communication that arises.

As a result, my work, for both VoPay and in general, is not just solidified design wise in terms of user experiences and user interfaces but also unified across the entire specified brand.

There are two cards. The first card has the title "Verify Your Account". Showcases similar information as in the banner image - an input for the customer to input the amount for the account they're verifying as well as a "Verify" button. At the bottom there is a text specifying that the page their on is secure and no information will be shared or saved. The second card has a large, green checkmark with the title below "Verification Complete". There is an arrow pointing from the first card to the second card.

Reflecting Back

Working at a fast-paced start-up such as VoPay is a unique experience, especially compared to the large and multinational experience I had at Nokia. The internal diversity of the workplace has taught me a lot about communication styles, cultures, and further team unity. I am excited to be working on a variety of projects and am engaged to learn about the subtle differences between a B2B and B2C product space.
